5th consecutive K-Chart win for Girls’ Generation
November 25, 2011Girls’ Generation took home their 5th K-Chart Award with ‘The Boys’, edging Wonder Girls by a whisker. Girls’ Generation scored 10,351 points while Wonder Girls who came in 2nd, collected 10,228 points. The 123 points advantage put the girls on top of the K-Chart for the 5th week in a row in addition to their triple crowns achievements on Mnet’s M!Countdown and SBS Inkigayo’s Mutizen Award.
In her speech, Sooyoung said, “We would like to thank our fans who have been giving us so much love. There’s nothing else to say besides words of appreciation. We are really thankful”. During the encore, Super Junior’s Shindong joined the girls as they were having fun and enjoying themselves.

MelOn Music Awards acknowledges Girls’ Generation’s global success with the ’2011 Global Artist Award’!
November 24, 2011In the 2011 MelOn Music Awards held on November 24th at the Seoul Olympic Gymnasium Arena, Girls’ Generation received the newly-established award, ’2011 Global Artist Award’.
Despite not being able to attend the award ceremony in person, Girls’ Generation pre-recorded a video to express their appreciation.
The girls made their speech in a cute manner by saying, “Thank you for giving the ’2011 Global Artist Award’ to Girls’ Generation! Is this an award for singers who made it to the worldwide market?”
They continued, “We’re regretful that we cannot attend the award ceremony but we are happy to conclude the year by receiving an award from the ’2011 MelOn Music Awards’. Recently, K-pop fever is spreading to the world and we feel proud as K-pop singers. Thank you!”

SHAKE it with Girls’ Generation!
November 22, 2011Rhythm action game ‘Girls’ Generation’ SHAKE’ became extremely popular immediately after its release.
On November 18th, the ‘Girls’ Generation SHAKE’ application was made available on iTunes. It was ranked 1st throughout the first three days of release (18th to 22nd) in the Music Game category on charts of Korea, Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Besides Asia, ‘Girls’ Generation SHAKE’ also received attention in countries such as the US, Australia and Canada and its top ranking on various charts is once again an indication of Girl’s Generation’s popularity worldwide.
In countries like Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore, the ‘Girls’ Generation SHAKE’ application did not only top the Music Games chart, but also the overall chart on iTunes. It is especially an unprecedented case in Japan for a Korean music game to obtain an overall 5th position. This proves Girls’ Generation’s influence in the music industry, as well as the game industry.
‘Girls’ Generation SHAKE’ comprises of songs in Girls’ Generation’s 3rd album ‘The Boys’ and it is available on iTunes in 13 languages including Korean, English and Japanese. Besides preparing to advance into Android market, existing hit songs of Girls’ Generation are also expected to be updated into the app shortly.

JTBS’s ‘Girls’ Generation and the Dangerous Boys’ to start Dec 4th!
November 22, 2011On November 22nd, JTBC announced that Girls’ Generation will be leading in the weekend variety programme, titled ‘Girls’ Generation and the Dangerous Boys’, where they will act as mentors for teenage boys.
In this programme, Girls’ Generation members will transform into mentors for teenage boys, who are stubborn and mischievous. It can also be called a ‘Dream Project’, where members resolve each of the boys’ problems and help them to find their dreams.
This reality programme will be carried out by providing training in a training camp for five teenage boys, who are willing to accept changes. These five boys come from different regions of Korea and will change day by day through the training.
JTBC said, “As Girls’ Generation are promoting ‘The Boys’ in their busy schedule, they took up the challenge of being mentors for the first time in their lives. This is expected to become a hot topic. This programme is especially meaningful as Girls’ Generation has prepared opportunities for teenage boys to start anew. While approaching them with sincere attitude, Girls’ Generation is going to present another side of them.”
This programme will be first aired on December 4th at 7.30pm KST.

Girls’ Generation receives Prime Minister’s Commendation Award!
November 21, 2011On November 21st, the 2011 Korean Popular Culture and Art Awards ceremony was held at the Seoul Olympic Hall.
This ceremony awards people who have made significant contributions to Korean popular culture and arts. Among the many award receivers, Girls’ Generation is the only idol group receiving the Prime Minister’s Commendation award, together with film makers such as Kim Ki-duk and Kim Soo-hee.
Besides receiving awards, Kpop idol groups including Girls’ Generation, Wonder Girls, Beast and After School also put up congratulatory performances as representatives of the Hallyu fever.

YoonA makes surprise appearance in elementary school textbook!
November 21, 2011A photo of YoonA was recently spotted in a social studies textbook for elementary school, specifically on the 15th page of a 6th grade textbook. The photo was posted onto online community and it attracted a lot of attention of netizens.
YoonA’s surprise appearance in the textbook was used in a page to explain the procedures of elections and voting.
Upon looking at the photo of YoonA voting at the ballot box in the textbook, netizens commented, “Girls’ Generation is indeed the popular trend.”

Seohyun, Yuri and Sooyoung to reveal college lives on KBS2′s ‘Star Life Theatre’
November 19, 2011On the upcoming November 21st episode of ‘Star Life Theatre’ on KBS2, Seohyun, Yuri and Sooyoung will be revealing their college lives, close friendships with their friends, as well as their strong will towards their studies.
Seohyun has always been known as a girl with great perseverance with aims to finish tasks with a curtained mind. During a conversation with the professor at the Theatre Department, it was revealed that Seohyun previously said, “Even if I get an F and is placed under academic probation, I will still work hard and attend school”, showing her strong will in pursuing her studies.
In school, Seohyun is just like any ordinary girl in her 20s, where she eats with her friends in the school canteen while chitchatting away, happy and laughing at your average daily conversations. She has been enjoying her school life as a college student and not as a member of Girls’ Generation.
On the other hand, Sooyoung and Yuri are both in the same course and they were seen in school amidst their tight schedules.
To show us their lives as college students, Sooyoung and Yuri went to the school canteen – a popular place among students. Besides behaving like ordinary students, such as pasting post-its onto their memo pad, Sooyoung and Yuri’s insistence for school work were seen even in broadcast waiting room or in the car, as they wrote reports during free time.
Taking time from their busy schedule for school, Sooyoung and Yuri are used to skipping meals. When they intended to fill their stomach and stepped into a convenient shop in the school, large number of students gathered around to watch them so they chose food in hurry and quickly left the place.
‘Star Life Theatre’ will be aired on November 22nd at 7.45pm on KBS2.

Have a Green Christmas with Yoona and Innisfree!
November 18, 2011A teaser video of a socks band’s unrevealed live practice scene was uploaded to YouTube by Innisfree on November 14th, featuring Girls’ Generation’s Yoona as the vocalist in the socks band, and the video attracted more than 20,000 views in just one day.
On November 18th, the full video was uploaded and it contains live scene of Innisfree’s surprise event held in one of its store, where Yoona made a special appearance as a member of a socks band instead of a Girls’ Generation member.
Yoona’s socks band surprise performance is prepared for a new campaign by Innisfree, where customers are encouraged to purchase Innisfree limited products with ‘clean Christmas’ seals, together with a 500 Won donation for a charity event ‘Save the Children’.
The full video of Yoona’s socks band is expected to attract more attention.

Jessica: A song made me cry during exhausting trainee days
November 18, 2011On the November 20th episode of SBS’s ‘Challenge! 1000 songs’, Girls’ Generation’s Sooyoung, Sunny and Jessica made their appearances as guests. During the show, Jessica confessed about her painful pre-debut story and she revealed the title of the song that made her cry during her trainee life.
During ‘1000 songs’, a corner named ‘Venting Noraebang (KTV)’ was prepared. Jessica said, “Usually, no matter what kind of songs I listen to, it can’t match my feelings. However, during the exhausting trainee days, I listened to this song and cried furiously.” Jessica then chose a song with this special reason.
As Jessica held the microphone and sang to this song, Sooyoung and Sunny who heard the song, thought of their trainee days and were moved to tears.
However, after the corner, Jessica immediately recovered from the moody situation and she further showed her 4-dimensional character by commenting, “The initial J is the J of Jessica” when Sunny chose ‘To Jay’ as her challenge song.
