On November 29th, the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) took place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Girls’ Generation, who are spearheading the Hallyu wave with their domestic and overseas activities won 2 awards, namely the ‘Best Female Group Award‘ and the ‘Artist of the Year Award‘ at the prestigious event.

After being announced the winner, the girls were overjoyed as they went up to the stage and expressed their appreciation towards the staff and agency, family, fans and the members as well. Yuri said, “We would like to thank all the seniors and juniors in SM Entertainment”.

The 2011 MAMA which took place from 5pm to 11pm KST on November 29th in Singapore was aired live to 20 countries in Asia, America and Europe.

SNSD’s 2011 calendars which were on sale since November 23rd sold even hotter than hot cakes.

The calendars, which are available in desktop and wall type are put up for sale and also being auctioned on Gmarket and according to them, the overwhelming demand and massive popularity drive large traffic to the event page and subsequently crashed the server.

Pre-orders were taken until December 5th and the calendars were shipped from December 10th onwards.

The popularity of SNSD reached the ears of Billboard.com‘s writers.

On December 3rd, Billboard.com published an article entitled, ‘Korea’s Girls’ Generation/SNSD Ready To Storm Japan’, highlighting mostly SNSD’s success in Japan.

In the article Billboard.com mentioned, “The Japanese music market may be increasingly resistant to international repertoire, but that isn’t stopping Girls’ Generation. The Korean girl group is hoping to turn huge YouTube buzz into sales in Japan and other international markets”.

At the end of the article, Billboard.com also mentioned about SNSD’s upcoming plans which includes the prospect of targetting Europe in 2011.

Girls’ Generation’s first Japanese-language album is due in the spring, and the group may target Europe later in 2011. There aren’t yet any plans for a North American release.

In addition to that, MBC News which was aired earlier today covered the Korean Wave in France. Based on these hints, is it true that Soshi is going to Europe next year? For now, we can only wait as we gather more hints coming our way.

SNSD’s 2011 calendar which sported the “Candid GIRLS with me” concept will be unveiled soon. In the calendar, there are varieties of new individual and group photos. Also, anniversaries and birthdays of the members will be marked in the calendar, making it a must-have item for fans. For smart phone users, a calendar application will also be made available. The calendar which is available in both desk-top type an wall type cost around 15,000 Won each (~US$ 13.30).

Orders and auctions will be taking place on Gmarket from November 23rd to December 5th. Shipping of the calendars will be made from December 10th onwards. During the ordering period, those who bought the calendar would stand a chance to win star-autographed calendars (total 90 people), first-come-first-served basis mini calendars (3,000 people) and pictorial postcards (60,000 people) via lucky draws. Winners will be announced on December 13th.
