SNSD who had just debuted in Japan in September 2010, are expecting to hit the 500,000 copies mark in terms of albums and DVD sales in Japan.
According to Oricon, SNSD who released 2 singles and a DVD, recorded a total sales of 318,736 as of December 9th. The DVD still manages to fetch sales of about 2,142 copies in the 17th week of it’s release and it was ranked 6th based on Oricon Weekly Chart released on December 6th. Based on the Singles Weekly Chart (December 6th), ‘Genie’ and ‘Gee’ sold 2201 copies (13th week) and 4155 copies (7th week) respectively.
In addition to these, the Japanese edition of ‘Hoot’ which will be released on December 22nd is expected to boost SNSD’s annual sales in Japan and thus, surpassing the 500,000 copies mark. Japanese edition of ‘Hoot’ which comes in Regular Edition, Limited Pressing Edition and First Press Limited Edition is expected to fetch better sales than singles. With that, the goal of exceeding 100,000 copies for every music release will soon be realized.
Soshi who appeared with 8 members at the FNS Music Festival in Japan, dressed in white and performed two songs – ‘Gee’ and ‘Genie’. We know how bad Tiffany wanted to attend the event and she must be very disappointed not being able to perform on the prestigious stage. Well, Fany, we miss you but we also want you to have a complete recovery.
Fans were full of expectation when they heard that there will be a collaboration performance by Shoujo Jidai and AKB48. However, to their disappointment, the collaboration was nothing more than just a medley.
Personally, I think Soshi did well tonight although I couldn’t help to feel disappointed that they did not perform the full versions for both songs.
For those who missed Soshi’s performance at the FNS Music Festival, here you go:
The so-called collaboration and ‘Genie’
On SBS ‘Strong Heart’ aired on November 30th, Yuri talked about the ‘burden’ she has while carrying out SNSD‘s activities in Japan.
According to Yuri, SNSD who wore hot pants (which revealed their beautiful legs) during ‘Genie’ debut in Japan were labeled as ‘Beautiful Legs Group’ ever since. When they were featured on TV shows, there were talks about their legs. Yuri added that the camera would even focus on their legs.
Due to the fact that a lot of interest and attention were directed to their legs during broadcasts, she felt that it was really a burden. Yuri explained that every time they are off to Japan, she would be spending more time and attention on her legs rather than her face. Especially when there are wounds, cuts and bruises on the legs, these visible marks have to be covered up with make-ups.
Yuri then gave everyone a good laugh when she revealed the truth behind ‘Beautiful Legs Group’ by saying, “SNSD members’ legs are generally not beautiful. Only a few are beautiful. There are members with shorts legs and some have thick legs.
The girls are in Japan again and they appeared on Asahi TV’s “Music Station” aired on November 26th. Performing “Genie” without Tiffany, the girls felt the ‘void’ on the stage and gave shout-outs to Fany who is currently recuperating in Korea due to her knee injury:
Sunny: We miss Tiffany today but we will try our best.
Taeyeon: We really miss Tiffany but eight of us will try our best on stage.
Sooyoung: We miss Tiffany today but I think we performed well.
The girls repeated three times “We miss Tiffany!” during Music Station.
Jessica did well in singing Fany’s lines. Instead of the usual “DJ, put it back on”, she awesomely changed it to “Music Station, put it back on” to suit the program.
Another point to ponder is Sunny’s hair. Following her recent appearances with short and wavy hair, netizens have been wondering if it was shortened for Japanese activities. Well, she appeared with long golden hair. Hmm…I’ve a bit of thinking to do. Let me know what you think! You can either post your opinions as comments or tweet me.
Without further ado, here’s Shoujo Jidai’s “Genie” on Asahi Tv’s “Music Station”:
The girls have made a big splash in Japan’s music industry after the sales of their Japanese debut single surpassed 100,000 copies. Genie which was officially released on September 8th was placed 25th on the recent Oricon Weekly Singles Chart.
On the 8th week of release, “Genie” recorded sales of 4,435 copies which took the tally to an accumulative sales of 101,252 copies. In just over a month, the girls were awarded the Gold Disc Certificate by the Recording Industry Association of Japan for selling more than 100,000 copies of the debut single.
The recognition received from the Recording Industry Association due to their impressive achievement on the Oricon Chart is a proof of SNSD’s popularity and status in Japan. SNSD is the first girl group from Korea to have achieve such amazing feats.
More achievements can be anticipated from these girls as their 2nd Japanese debut single “Gee” looks more than promising. The single which was released on October 20th, have already recorded a total accumulative sales of 89,561 in just two weeks. It is just a matter of time before the girls enjoy their second 100k-sales in Japan.
Finally, the 3D MV is unveiled. It was first shown to the public on August 22nd at SM Town Live 10 in Seoul as part of Samsung’s 3DTV promotional event and there were fancams of the MV then.
Now, enjoy the clear and HQ version of the 3D MV! You won’t see the effects from your computer screen but at least you get to see a different “Tell Me Your Wish” MV, right?
SNSD wrapped up their “Genie” sales for the month of September in the 4th spot with total sales of 75,276 copies. Competition was pretty tough for 3rd to 6th placing, as they were all within the range of 73k to 80k copies.
Nonetheless, congratulations to the girls and we surely hope to see “Genie” and “Gee” within Top 10 for the month of October.

On September 24th, SNSD’s Japan Debut Single “Genie” was ranked 6th on Oricon Weekly Singles Chart.
The debut single which was released on September 8th was ranked 4th on September 20th’s Weekly Singles Chart. Being placed within Top 10 for two consecutive weeks is an amazing feat for the girls who are newcomers to Japan’s music industry.
“Genie” recorded sales of 44,907 copies in the first week of its release and 17,792 in the following week. From these two weeks, the girls recorded a total sales of 62,699 copies.
With the impressive achievement of selling more than 60,000 copies of their debut single within two weeks of release, there is much expectation and anticipation for their 2nd Single “Gee” which is scheduled to be released on October 20th.
Two weeks have passed since the release of SNSD’s Japan Debut Single “Genie” but the girls are still doing remarkably well as they are still within the Top 5 of the Oricon Daily Singles Chart.
On September 14th, “Genie” dropped to 11th spot on the Daily Singles Chart due to new releases in Japan but the effect was temporary. The girls were ranked 4th on September 18th on the chart.
The girls’ re-entry into the chart at Top 5 after two weeks of release is a rather unusual phenomenon in Japanese music industry. Usually after the first week of sales, there will be drop in ranking on the Oricon chart. However, this was not the case with SNSD where even after the second week, they are still showing improvement in terms of their ranking on the chart.
The girls’ successful debut showcase which attracted about 22,000 fans and their consistent achievement on the Oricon Daily Singles Chart are indeed an indication that the girls have a very bright future ahead in Japan.
We know that breaking records are nothing new to our girls. fanwonder.com hopes that the girls will keep on breaking as many records as possible in Japan. The girls are the best and wherever they go, they will shine.
