Girls’ Generation’s new Japanese single ‘LOVE & GIRLS’ to be released on May 29th!
April 5, 2013Girls’ Generation will be releasing their 7th Japanese single ‘LOVE & GIRLS’ on May 29th!
The new single will include two tracks ‘LOVE & GIRLS’ and リンガ・フランカ (Lingua Franca).
‘LOVE & GIRLS’ will come in two versions, the First Press Limited Edition (1,890 yen) which includes a DVD containing the MV of ‘Beep Beep’ and the regular version without the DVD (1,260 yen).
‘LOVE & GIRLS’ will be Girls’ Generation’s latest release in Japan after the previous ‘Flower Power’ single and their second Japanese album ‘Girls & Peace’.

Girls’ Generation’s ‘Beep Beep’ short version MV released!
April 5, 2013The short version music video of Girls’ Generation’s Japanese track ‘Beep Beep’ is released today!
A short teaser of the music video was revealed at Girls’ Generation’s 2nd Japan Arena Tour in Saitama on April 4th and it was announced that the full music video will be released at 8 am JST the following day.
‘Beep Beep’ is a B-side track included in Girls’ Generation’s ‘Flower Power’ single, which was released digitally on November 14th, 2012 and physical copies were available in stores a week later.
The chirpy, upbeat song was also performed in the girls’ ongoing 2nd Arena Tour concerts and many are looking forward to an official music video release of the song.

Girls’ Generation wins two awards at the ’27th Japan Gold Disc Award 2013′!
January 8, 2013In the recently announced list of winners for ‘The 27th Japan Gold Disc Award 2013′, Girls’ Generation (also known as Shoujo Jidai in Japan) won two awards – ‘Song of the Year By Download Award (Asia)’ with ‘Paparazzi’ and ‘Best Music Video Award (Asia)’ with their ‘Japan First Tour Girls’ Generation’.
Other winners in the ‘Song of the Year By Download Award’ are Namie Amuro and Che’Nelle while ‘Best Music Video Award’ winners include Arashi, EXILE and Lady Gaga.
The Japan Gold Disc Award is one of the major annual music awards in Japan, held by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) yearly since 1987, in recognition of the music sales and outstanding artists in the country.
Girls’ Generation are no strangers to the awards as they have received recognition from the Gold Disc Awards since two years ago. In 2011, the year following their debut in Japan, the girls were awarded the ‘New Artists of The Year Award‘ and the ‘Best 5 New Artists Award‘ in the 25th Gold Disc Award. Meanwhile, in 2012, Girls’ Generation were awarded the ‘Album of the Year Award (Asia)’ as well as ‘Best 3 Albums Award (Asia)’ for their first Japanese album ‘Girls’ Generation’.

Oricon: Girls’ Generation tops Korean singers’ sales in 2012
December 20, 2012Girls’ Generation was ranked 7th in Oricon’s ’2012 Annual Total Sales by Artist’ chart. Among the Korean singers plying their trades in Japan, the girls have recorded the highest number of sales in the year 2012.
On December 19th, Oricon officially published the annual singles and album sales ranking for 2012, calculated from December 26th, 2011 to December 17th, 2012.
According to the records published, the ranking of the artists were determined based on total sales from singles, studio albums, CD, DVD, blu-ray and etc. Girls’ Generation came in 7th after registering sales amounting to 4.332 billion Yen (55 billion Won).
Meanwhile, Girls’ Generation will be kicking off their ’2013 Girls’ Generation Arena Tour’ at Niigata, Japan.

[UPDATED] Girls’ Generation to reveal their ‘Flower Power’!
November 1, 2012It’s time to ‘power-up’ your wallets again! After just a month and a half of the 5th Japanese Single, ‘Oh!’, the girls are back with the 6th single and subsequently, the 2nd Japanese album two weeks later. The 6th single, entitled ‘Flower Power‘ is set for release on November 14th while the 2nd album, of which the title has yet to be revealed is scheduled to be released on November 28th.
‘Flower Power’ is a dance song that features captivating music as well as sexy chorus. The lyrics described the tricks played by a man and a woman who met on a dance floor, as well as the lights, sounds and the dazzling atmosphere which will be expressed through the song.

The release date for Girls’ Generation’s 6th Japanese single ‘Flower Power’ has been postponed from the initial November 14th release date to a week later on November 23rd. Meanwhile, another track ‘Girls’ Generation II Smash-Up’, the digest of Girls’ Generation’s second full Japanese album which is due to be released a week after ‘Flower Power’, has been added to the single.

Earlier today, SMTOWN caught SONEs by surprise as the full music video of ‘Flower Power’ was released through its official YouTube channel.
The very first day of November was greeted not only with the music video but also some details about the upcoming 2nd Japanese Album entitled ‘Girls’ Generation II – Girls and Peace’ which will be officially released on November 28th. The album comes in 3 different editions and each jacket features the girls as flight attendants in different settings.

‘Oh!’ and ‘Girls’ Generation Complete Video Collection’ certified Gold by RIAJ two weeks after release!
October 11, 2012After just two weeks of release, Girls’ Generation’s 5th Japanese single ‘Oh!’ has appeared on the list of singles with Gold certification.
The Gold certification by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) is given to releases with shipment figures exceeding 100,000 copies and in just two weeks, the 5th single ‘Oh!’, which was released on September 26th, had managed to achieved such amazing feat. Other than the single, the ‘Girls’ Generation Complete Video Collection’, which was released on the same day had also received the Gold certification as well, an indication of the girls’ huge popularity in Japan.
Earlier this year, the first Japanese album ‘Girls’ Generation’, which was released back in June 2011, smashed the 1,000,000 million figure and was certified as a ‘Million’ selling album.
There will be more exciting releases to come this year as the girls’ 6th Japanese single ‘Flower Power’ and 2nd Japanese Album (title yet to be revealed) will be hitting the stores come November 14th and 28th respectively.

Girls’ Generation, the first female artist to top 3 Oricon weekly charts at the same time
October 2, 2012Girls’ Generation topped Oricon’s Weekly Singles Chart (October 8th edition) through their 5th Japanese single ‘Oh!’ which was released on September 26th with sales of about 66,000 copies throughout the first week of its release.
Besides the single’s successful release, the ‘Girls’ Generation Complete Video Collection’ DVD and Blu-ray which were released on the same day as the 5th single also topped the weekly charts of their respective divisions with sales of 40,000 copies (DVD) and 19,000 copies (Blu-ray) respectively.
With such impressive sales volume, Girls’ Generation had successfully secured the no.1 spot on 3 different divisions, making them the second artist to have achieved such a feat after Japan’s popular group, Mr. Children. Among female artists as well as foreign artists, Girls’ Generation are the first to have topped 3 divisions at the same time.

Girls’ Generation says ‘All My Love is for You’ in new Japanese single MV!
September 4, 2012Girls’ Generation’s new music video for a new Japanese single ‘All My Love is for You’ has been released!
Girls’ Generation, also known as Shoujo Jidai in Japan, will be releasing their new Japanese single, which contains two new songs, this coming September 26th, with yet to be announced title track and concepts.
Prior to the release of this new single, Girls’ Generation’s second single in 2012 after ‘Paparazzi’ in June, the music video of the coupling track ‘All My Love is for You’ has been released at 8am JST on September 4th.
According to HMV Online and CDJapan, the still to-be-announced single will be available in two versions; the Standard Edition and the First Press Limited Edition which comes with a DVD of the music video. The album jacket will be different for both versions.
The new single will be released on September 26th and stay tuned for more details on the new release.

[UPDATED] Girls’ Generation is back with 4th Japanese single ‘Paparazzi’

Girls’ Generation is back with another single to dominate the Japanese music industry again this summer. Exactly 1 year and 2 months after the release of their 3rd Japanese single ‘Mr.Taxi’ (released on April 27th, 2011), Girls’ Generation’s 4th Japanese single ‘Paparazzi’ is set to be unveiled on June 27th, 2012. Just hours after the announcement of the single’s release, the PV teaser was revealed through SMTOWN’s official YouTube channel.
Earlier this month during an interview with JoongAng Daily, Tiffany described the new single ‘Paparazzi’ as a fast-beat dance song that has the most difficult choreography in history. The production team of the single includes Grammy Award winner Miles Walker (mixing) and world-renowned Sterling Sound’s Tom Coyne (mastering).
In the teaser PV revealed, Girls’ Generation members appeared as top stars who are getting all the attention with bodyguards accompanying them as they made their way to a theater. Also, through the teaser, one could clearly hear the repeated verse of ‘ooh la la la~’. Another aspect that strikes the attention of the viewers is the members’ fashionable appearance in beige-colored trench coats in front of a broadway theater.

UPDATE 1: Music Videos of Paparazzi released, recorded about 2 million views in less than 2 days
At midnight of June 15th, two versions (Full Version and Dance Edit) of ‘Paparazzi’ music video were released through SM Town official YouTube channel. In just less than two days, the full version of the ‘Paparazzi’ MV recorded more than 1.6 million views while the dance version has about 850,000 views on YouTube.
The girls are scheduled to appear on TV Asahi’s ‘Music Station’ on June 22nd along with Linkin Park, KAT-TUN, etc.

UPDATE 2: ‘Paparazzi’ topped iTunes Japan Chart
Just hours after its official release, Girls’ Generation have shown their domination once again by taking the no.1 spot on iTunes Japan’s ‘Top Charts’.
Rola’s debut album ‘Memories’ came in 2nd while Japanese girl group Momoiro Clover Z took the no.3 spot. American singer, Chris Brown’s ‘Don’t Wake Me Up’ was also among the top 10 songs in the chart.

UPDATE 3: ‘Paparazzi’ ranked 2nd on Oricon Daily Singles Chart
On June 27th, based on the data released by Oricon, Girls’ Generation’s ‘Paparazzi’ has recorded sales of 42,525 copies, placing the girls’ 4th Japanese Single in the no.2 spot behind KAT-TUN’s ‘To The Limit’ which sold more than 60,000 copies on day 1. Both singles were officially released on June 27th.
In comparison to the girls’ 3rd Japanese Single ‘Mr.Taxi/Run Devil Run’ which was released in April 2011, ‘Paparazzi’ ended its first day of sales by about 2,000 copies more. However, both singles finished 2nd on day 1.

UPDATE 4: ‘Paparazzi’ ranked 2nd on Oricon Weekly Singles Chart
According to Oricon on July 5th, ‘Paparazzi’ recorded sales of 92,526 copies for the week June 25th to July 1st, which places the 4th single in the 2nd spot on the Oricon Weekly Singles Chart behind KAT-TUN’s ‘To The Limit’ which sold 156,351 copies in the same week.
