A look at SNSD’s pre-debut publicity in Japan

Saturday, September 4th, 2010

SNSD’s Japanese debut single “Genie” is set to make its debut in Japan on Tuesday, September 8th and the widespread publicities in Japan have garnered interest from the Korean and Japanese media.

A large billboard promoting the girls’ debut can be seen next to billboards of “Resident Evil 4″ and Japan’s famous group, SMAP at Shibuya, Tokyo which is one of Japan’s largest shopping area. Along the streets in Shibuya, the girls’ “Genie” promotional and music video was displayed on large screens. Ever since Tohoshinki’s 2007-2008 promotional activities, publicity of this scale has never been witnessed.

In view of SNSD’s popularity in Japan, an undisclosed Japanese source said, “SNSD’s appearance on various TV programs in the past two weeks have increased their popularity in Japan.”

In Japan’s largest record store, Shibuya Tower Records, SNSD’s CDs and DVDs are being displayed among other Japanese and foreign artists, indicating that the hot demand and expectations from fans and music lovers.

The girls have also graced the covers of a few magazines such as AERA’s “K-POP GIRLS” and Nikkei Entertainment which have attracted a lot of attentions from netizens.

An 18 year-old high school student living in Tokyo named Shiozaki gave SNSD a thumbs up in terms of their appearances and said that the girls are prettier than other entertainers in Japan. Shiozaki added that she heard stories of Kara and SNSD in school. When asked, “what is your opinion of their songs?”, Shiozaki left without answering the question.

Despite these promotions and publicities, there were also responses such as “I don’t know” from the general public. Hopefully after their debut single is released, the word “don’t” would be struck off…lol.

The girls won the Singer Award at the 37th Korea Broadcasting Award Ceremony held at KBS Hall in Seoul today. However, the girls could not be there to receive the award as they are now at Los Angeles, United States for the SM Town Live 10 World Tour Concert which will be taking place on September 4th.

Mean while in Japan, SNSD’s commemorative DVD “New Beginning of Girls’ Generation” which was released about 4 weeks ago, captured the no.1 spot on the Oricon DVD Chart.

SNSD: Flash of lightning a sign of 대박(daebak)!

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

While on their flight to Japan for the first showcase in Japan, the girls experienced something scary but see it as a sign of a great success.

Before boarding the plane to LA yesterday for the SM Town Live 10 World Tour Concert in Staples Center on September 4th, the girls were interviewed by media reporters. The girls saird, “recently, we took a plane to Japan for our first showcase there. Inside the plane, we saw flashes. An announcement was made later that says ‘our plane was hit by lightning but everything’s fine’. The girls then added, “it was like a scene in the movie.”

The situation could put the girls in serious danger, but the girls look at it positively. According to them, “We feel that the lightning is a sign that we will be 대박 (daebak – great success) in Japan.”

The girls are now in LA and they are scheduled to perform with other SM Town artists at the SM Town Live 10 World Tour Concert on September 4th, 7.00pm (LA local time). Here’s a picture of Sooyoung and TVXQ’s U-Know Yunho in the Boeing 747-400 bound for LA.

…and a few other photos of our girls at the airport and on the plane. Have a daebak performance in LA, girls!

Bring it on, S/mileage!

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

At the recent “Idol Summer Festival 2010” at C.C. Lemon Hall in Shibuya, Tokyo, 15-year old Fukuda Kanon from the group S/mileage publicly challenge SNSD, saying that they have “fresher” legs. I am not sure what she meant by “fresher” but they will soon know that SNSD have more than just pretty legs. Here’s the translation by Kanki of Soshified.com from the original articles:

Idol group S/mileage member Fukuda Kanon (15) threw out a written challenge to 9-member Korean unit SNSD. In an interview Fukuda said with strength and a smile, “SNSD is known as the idols with great legs, but we’re fresher.” “Everyone here, along with our seniors Morning Musume, AKB48 and SNSD are our rivals. But, we have fresh great legs and can’t lose to anyone.” Each member from the other groups just smiled bitterly.

Hmm…written challenge! I admire the young Japanese girl’s courage there. She must have plenty of confidence in her. Confidence is good but they ought to be realistic. Honestly, the written challenge thing reminds me of duels in kung-fu movies. Watched too much of those, dear Kanon?

There are more to just legs. Personality, character, professionalism and variety skills are among the things that our Soshi have. If there were to compare legs, there are many girl groups out there with great legs.

SNSD’s interview @ KBS 2 Entertainment Weekly

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

The interview with KBS 2 “Entertainment Weekly” aired on August 28th revealed the girls’ reactions on the showcase at Ariake Coliseum (August 25th) and also their experiences in Japan.

When asked about the reactions from the fans, Sooyoung answered,”We never thought that there were so many people coming to out showcase. Usually fans sit while waving their light sticks but to our surprise, everyone stood up, waving their light sticks and sang our songs(lyrics in Korean).”

On the difference between Korean and Japanese fans, Hyoyeon jokingly said,”language” and the girls burst into laughter. Yuri then replied,”We were amazed that some of the fans who came to see us dressed in our stage costume”. Tiffany made it simple by saying,”cosplay”.

The host then asked if the girls have experienced the effects of their popularity in Japan. Sooyoung answered,”Not long ago, not me but one of our members went to a supermarket.” Upon hearing Sooyoung’s statement, Sunny giggled, hinting that Sooyoung was actually referring to her. Sooyoung added,”She went to a convenience store and got spotted by fans. I heard that she kept denying that she’s a member of SNSD because she did not have make-up on at that moment.” Hyoyeon then explained the reason for going out without their make-up on by saying,”…because if we go out without make-up, no one would be able to recognize us.” Upon hearing that the girls burst into laughter.

Before the end of the interview, Yuri said that SNSD hope to tour the cities in Japan and spread their music to all over the country.

Here’s the video clip of the interview:

The girls will be performing at the 2010 Incheon Korean Music Wave on August 29th with Yuri and Tiffany as the MC for the event.

Fan account @ SNSD’s Mezamashi Mini Live Show

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

Again, it was a mini show but as usual, SNSD’s shows are always as big as concerts. We are lucky to have SONEs sharing their experience at those shows. Here’s the fan account by winkme.

Hello Sones! I went at Odaiba with my friend after my work just to see the girls performing LIVE yesterday!!! ♥ I arrived at 1:00 p.m and got my number ticket (no.933 & no.934). We thought we couldn’t get our number tickets because we know the girls are so popular and we thought the tickets will be sold out but luckily we got it and had the chance to see them free!!! The staffs explain to us that we should line up around 3:45 p.m. Since we arrived very early, we walk around Odaiba and went to the amusement park (JOY POLIS) lol.

After we came back, I heard SNSD saying “Konnichiwa, watashi tachi wa Shoujyo Jidai desu! , yoroshiku onegaishimasu!’ I was so exited when I heard their voice!!! I think they are rehearsing (: but we couldn’t see them because the stage is covered. During 3:00 p.m the fans and non-fans are lining-up already! The girls are so popular!!! Non-Fans also lined up and waited just to know who is Shoujyo Jidai are! Hmm, If I remember there were 2,000+ people lined up! It’s too crowded, sweating like crazy coz it’s too HOT XD

When we are lining-up, the fans who got to go inside first started to practice GENIE, GEE, RDR, & OH’s fanchants! they brought their pink penlights, SNSD goods like uchiwa too~ The mezamashi reporter was reporting the fans (: I thought were very far from the stage but we’re near the stage! I think it’s just 6 meters from the stage XDD

They sang GENIE & GEE ( Both in Korean Version) then they introduced themselves one by one! I LOVE THEIR OUTFITS!!!! I think its my favorite outfits <333 after GENIE, they told us that they are going to sing one more song, GEE. After GEE, they say goodbye to us but Fans are wishing for encore! But SNSD didn’t appeared cause the show is over XD they just show to us the JP Version of GENIE MV. The staffs told us no picture taking/no video recording and no sound recording BUT I took some pictures…Forgive me for my crappy pictures >.< I was scared my camera will confiscate so Its so sneaky *__* The girls are so pretty in person!!! so slim XD maknae seohyun is sooooo pretty *___*well all of them are so pretty!

By the way, “Konnichiwa, watashi tachi wa Shoujyo Jidai desu! , yoroshiku onegaishimasu!” simply means “Hello, we are Girls’ Generation! Nice to meet you!”. Also, the photos shared are awesome.

@winkme Your photos are not crappy. They’re awesome!
