Girls’ Generation to perform ‘Genie’ at ‘Kouhaku Uta Gassen’

On December 21st, the songs that Girls’ Generation, Kara and TVXQ are going to perform at Japan’s most prestigious year end music festival NHK’s ‘Kouhaku Uta Gassen’ were revealed.

From the list of songs to be performed by 55 artists at the event, TVXQ who will be participating at ‘Kouhaku Uta Gassen’ for the 3rd time will be performing ‘Why?’ which was released in January this year.

Girls’ Generation on the other hand, are looking to heat up the event with the title song of their Japanese debut single ‘Genie’ released in September last year. Kara will be presenting their ’2011 Special Medley’.

Meanwhile, the list of appearances is expected to be officially announced around December 27th. This year’s NHK’s ‘Kouhaku Uta Gassen’ which carries the theme ‘Let’s Sing for Tomorrow’ will kick off at 7.15pm to 11.45pm KST on December 31st and it will be broadcasted on both TV and radio channels.

Kinki Kids’ Koichi Domoto praised SNSD and Kara for their awesome performances

At a press conference for his visit which took place at 2.30pm KST on August 10th in the Grand Hilton Hotel at Hongeun-dong, Seodaemun-gu in Seoul, Japan’s top idol, KinKi Kids’ Koichi Domoto mentioned about SNSD and Kara, the girl groups who are currently enjoying huge popularity in Japan.

Koichi Domoto said, “I had been on a program with Kara before but as for SNSD, I only managed to meet them briefly. At the same time, looking at their activeness in pursuing various areas, I think they are pretty amazing. I try to calm myself as I still feel nervous before going up on stage but it looks like they do not tremble and manage to deliver great and enjoyable performances”.

He then praised the girls by saying, “They are really awesome”.

Koichi Domoto’s first ever concert in Korea ‘Koichi Domoto 2011 BPM in Seoul’ will be held on September 10th at Seoul Olympic Hall. Tickets go on sale at 9pm KST on August 11th.

SNSD and Kara among Japan’s top 5 most searched celebrities in first half of 2011

Japan’s largest internet portal site, Yahoo Japan released the ‘Search Ranking for First Half of 2011′ on July 7th.

In the celebrity search category, SNSD and Kara were ranked 4th and 5th respectively. Japan’s national girl group, AKB48 took the no.1 spot while Arashi, the popular male idol group who made their names through their music as well as variety shows in Japan came in 2nd. Atsuko Maeda, who won the AKB48 Senbatsu General Election in June, took the no.3 spot on the Yahoo Japan search ranking.

Kim Goora: It’s because SNSD are promoting in Japan

March 9, Sistar’s Bora and Hyorin, and Secret’s Sunhwa and Jieun were guests on Radio Star.

Kim Gookjin introduced them by stating “They are currently the hottest idols in Korea besides IU.” Upon that statement, Kim Goora reasoned “That’s because SNSD are in Japan right now, and Kara are in confusion.”

Kim Goora also mentioned the CEO of Sistar’s agency and stated “The agency was originally promoting K.Will, but changed to promoting Sistar. It’s probably because all he knows is copying Wheesung’s voice.”

SNSD and Kara among top famous female searches in Japan

Kara and SNSD are among Japan’s top searches for the ‘famous female’ category. According to one of Japan’s major portal site, Infoseek, Kara and SNSD were ranked 2nd and 3rd respectively in terms of searches for famous females in Japan from February 15th to February 21st. In the previous week, Kara were placed 5th while SNSD came in 7th.

The huge number of searches was fueled by SNSD’s first Japanese CF for ‘e-ma Throat Candy’ entitled ‘Girls’ Dinner’ which also features their 2nd Japanese hit single ‘Gee’. The CF will be aired throughout Japan from February 26th onwards.

Meanwhile, Japan’s 48-member girl group AKB48 were the hottest search of the week.

SNSD, TVXQ, Kara secured top 5 as ‘Gee’ continues to impress on Japan’s iTunes Chart

TVXQ, SNSD and Kara have shown their domination once again where the secured 3 places in the Top 5 of Japan’s iTunes Singles chart.

According to Japan’s iTunes Singles Chart on January 30th, TVXQ’s ‘Why? (Keep Your Head Down)’ was ranked 1st, followed by SNSD’s ‘Run Devil Run’ in 2nd and Kara’s ‘Mister’ in 4th.


While SNSD’s newly released Japanese version of ‘Run Devil Run’ successfully secured the 2nd spot, their 2nd Single ‘Gee‘ which was released last year, still manages to stay within the top 10. ‘Gee‘ was ranked 9th based on the chart released on January 30th.

Shoujo Jidai and Kara are the most promising artistes in Japan this year

New Korean Wave’s big players, SNSD and Kara were chosen as the two most promising singers in 2011 in Japan.

According to Oricon on January 7th, 500 members of the monthly-published Oricon Magazine have participated in a survey to determine the most promising artistes in 2011. The result went in favor of Kara and SNSD where they took the no.1 and no.2 spot respectively.

Oricon stated, “This year, Kara topped the list of the most promising artistes in 2011 while SNSD came in 2nd. The two groups (Kara and SNSD) have also managed to secure the top two spots on Oricon in terms of total music sales in the ‘Newcomers Category’ last year”.

SNSD won 2 awards at ‘The 25th Japan Gold Disc Award 2010′

On January 5th, according to the list of winners for ‘The 25th Japan Gold Disc Award 2010‘, SNSD and Kara won 2 awards respectively – ‘The New Artists of The Year Award‘ and ‘The Best New Artists Award‘.


The results were not surprising as SNSD and Kara’s achievements have surpassed many new artistes in Japan. However, unlike SNSD, MIWA and other new Japanese artistes, Kara were placed in the ‘Best 3 New Artists’ in western music category, alongside American popstar, Ke$ha.

SNSD who debuted in Japan on September 8th last year released their first debut single ‘Genie’ which recorded sales of over 100,000 copies and became the best-selling debut single released by a foreign female artiste. SNSD’s 2nd single ‘Gee’ had also recorded sales of more than 100,000 copies and due to these achievemnts, SNSD have received the Gold Certificates by RIAJ for both their single releases in 2010.

SNSD and Kara ended 2010 with a Bang! in Japan

SNSD and Kara recorded the highest sales for new artists who ply their trade in Japan in 2010.

According to Sankei Shinbun on December 20th, based on recent Oricon sales data collected from 39,580 stores, the sales results were reflected on the ’43rd Oricon Annual Ranking 2010′.

According to the Oricon ranking system, Kara and SNSD took the #1 and #2 spot respectively in terms of sales revenue in the new artists category.

Kara collected revenue of 1.3 billion Yen (equivalent to 18 billion Won) while SNSD managed to record sales worth 880,000 million Yen (equivalent to 12 billion won) in 2010.

In terms of singles sales, SNSD’s ‘Gee’ and ‘Genie’ were ranked #1 and #2 respectively while Kara’s ‘Jumping’ came in 3rd.
