Showa Jidai is back with ‘Mr. Taxi’

Japanese dance cover group Showa Jidai who once did a funny cover of ‘Gee’ is now back with their parody of ‘Mr.Taxi’.

Japanese idol group, SMAP’s leader Nakai Masahiro and his parody group, Showa Jidai performed Girls’ Generation’s ‘Mr.Taxi’ on Fuji TV’s ‘SMAPXSMAP’ aired on November 7th.

Including Nakai Masahiro himself, Showa Jidai which consists of middle-age members in their 30s and 40s, were clad in Girls’ Generation’s ‘Mr.Taxi’ costume and completed their performance successfully, much to the amusement of the Japanese viewers.

During their performance, Nakai Masahiro particularly, caught the attention of the viewers with his dance and bald headed appearance. Nonetheless, the bouncing bellies of the members behind him gave the viewers a good laugh as well.

Japanese netizens who saw the broadcast commented, “I had a good laugh just by looking at them but with the dance, I laughed even more”, “Nakai Masahiro’s expressionless face was really funny. I think Girls’ Generation would enjoy watching this”, “After ‘Gee’, they did a parody of ‘Mr.Taxi’. I could never thought of it”.

Soshi made a comeback on Music Core with 3 performances

On October 22nd, SNSD heated up MBC ‘Show! Music Core’ with 3 songs from their 3rd album, ‘The Boys’.

SNSD kicked off their comeback stages with the Korean version of the Japanese hit which took Japan’s Oricon Chart by storm, ‘Mr.Taxi’ and then followed by ‘How Great Is Your Love’ which highlighted the girls’ unique cuteness and innocence.

The lyrics for ‘How Great Is Your Love’ was written by Sooyoung and the beautiful melody of the song blended well with the 9 girls’ delicate voices.

The girls then appeared in elegant and luxurious medieval-era costumes for ‘The Boys’ as they pulled off a powerful and energetic performance with explosive dance moves and their always-impressive singing ability.

Girls’ Generation make em’ feel the heat on Music Bank

The 9 goddesses announced their return to KBS ‘Music Bank’ with a powerful comeback stage!

On October 21st, SNSD performed their very first live performance of ‘The Boys’ on KBS ‘Music Bank’ since its release on October 19th.

The 9 girls took the stage with each of them wearing completely different costumes, emphasizing their respective personalities and awed the audience with their strong, powerful and charismatic performance. Besides ‘The Boys’, SNSD also performed the Korean version of ‘Mr.Taxi’ for the first time on a music show.

The girls’ comeback on ‘Music Bank’ was made even more special when ‘GIRLS ARE BACK’ and ‘BRING THE BOYS OUT’ went on to become the trending topics on Twitter. Also, as of 8pm KST, the music video for the Korean version of ‘The Boys’ had surpassed 7.6 million views in less than 3 days.

SNSD and SHINee conquered Tower Records’ charts

Japan’s largest record store, Tower Records recenty released the ‘Best Sellers for 1st half of 2011′ charts. From the results released, SNSD topped the Kpop album chart while SHINee took the no.1 spot in the Singles category. SNSD’s ‘Mr.Taxi/Run Devil Run’ also made it to the top 5 in the Singles category where it attained the 4th spot. Here are the results:

[UPDATED] Get ready for a taxi ride to Japan!

So, the much awaited 3rd Japanese Single is coming our way after all. Rumors started to surface since a week ago that the girls 3rd Japanese Single entitled ‘Mr. Taxi’ will be released on April 13th and ‘Mr. Taxi’ is also rumored to be the  CM/CF song for Lipton Tea. It seems that the rumor about the 3rd single ‘Mr. Taxi’ is coming true as the jacket image for the Limited Edition was revealed and widely shared on various sites.

SONEs are definitely in for a ride as the girls will also be having their first nationwide tour in Japan in May. ‘The 1st Japan Arena Tour’ will kick off starting May 18th in Tokyo, followed by Osaka, Nagoya and Fukuoka. There will be a total of 7 concerts in this tour and looks like Yuri’s dream to have a nationwide tour in Japan is coming true as well. In fact, Yuri had mentioned a couple of times on TV shows that she wanted to perform in various places in Japan together with the girls. Perhaps, she was hinting about the tour all this while.

So, what are we waiting for? Get ready to pay the taxi fare, i guess!

The scheduled 1st Japan Arena Tour concert dates have been revised and 3 additional concerts were added to the original schedule. The new revised schedule looks like this:

[UPDATED] ‘Mr.Taxi’ topped charts in both Korea and Japan simultaneously

SNSD’s 3rd Japanese Single title track ‘Mr.Taxi’ secured top spot on Japan’s largest mobile ringtone chart Rekochoku as soon as it was released officially on April 27th. The single is also expected to make a huge wave on Oricon Daily Singles Chart and subsequently the Weekly Chart after its release today.

Due to the massive earthquake back in March this year, the release date of ‘Mr.Taxi’ got delayed and activities were affected. However, it seems that the Kpop fever spearheaded by Hallyu girl groups are heating up again.

Mr. Taxi is SNSD’s first original Japanese song and it is a song that showcases the girls unique music style as well as impressive dance choreography.

UPDATE 1: ‘Mr.Taxi’ grabbed no.1 spot on Bugs! Real Time Chart

Looks like ‘Mr.Taxi’ is not only heating up the digital charts in Japan but also in Korea. This record breaking feat was achieved at around 1pm KST where ‘Mr.Taxi’ managed to grab the no.1 spot on Bugs! Real Time Chart. Jay Park’s ‘Abandoned’ and ‘오늘밤’ took the 2nd and 3rd spot respectively.

UPDATE 2: SNSD’s ‘Mr.Taxi’ sold more than 40,000 copies on first day

The numbers are in and the girls finished 2nd on Oricon’s Daily Singles Chart with 40,194 copies. Jang KeunSeok’s ‘Let Me Cry’ took the 1st spot with 56,923 copies. Nonetheless it was a good result for the girls and a huge improvement if you look at the sales of 2nd Single ‘Gee’ which recorded 28,838 copies on its first day of release. Again, well done to the girls!


UPDATE 3: Mr.Taxi topped Oricon on Day 3

After two days finishing in 2nd on Oricon’s Daily Singles Chart, SNSD’s ‘Mr.Taxi’ successfully secured the top spot on the daily chart for April 29th with recorded sales of 12,437 copies, taking the cumulative sales to 73,914 copies after just 3 days. On April 28th, ‘Mr.Taxi’ was in 2nd with daily sales of 21,283 copies. The summary of sales for the past 3 days are as follows:

Day 1 – 40,194 copies (2nd)
Day 2 – 21,283 copies (2nd)
Day 3 – 12,437 copies (1st)

UPDATE 4: Mr.Taxi topped Daum Music’s Weekly Chart


Besides topping Oricon’s Daily Singles Charts, SNSD’s ‘Mr.Taxi’ are doing equally well on Korea’s weekly music charts as well. SNSD’s 3rd Japanese Single ‘Mr.Taxi’ topped Daum Music’s Weekly Chart (April 24th to April 30th) although there was barely any promotional activities by the girls in Korea. Besides Daum Music’s chart, here are ‘Mr.Taxi”s rankings on other weekly charts in Korea:

Bugs! (April 24th to April 30th) – 6th
Dosirak (April 25th to May 1st) – 10th

UPDATE 5: Mr.Taxi sold 100,000 copies in just a week

In just one week, SNSD’s Mr.Taxi’s cumulative sales hit 100,000 copies mark.  ’Genie’, ‘Gee’, ‘Hoot’ and the current release, ‘Mr.Taxi’ have all recorded cumulative sales beyond 5 figures. ‘Mr.Taxi’ however, managed to achieve that feat in the shortest time among these releases.

According to Oricon on May 3rd, this was SNSD’s best ever weekly sales ever since their Japanese debut back in September last year.

UPDATE 6: Mr.Taxi conquered Billboard Japan chart

After finishing 2nd on Oricon Weekly Singles Chart with sales over 100,000 copies behind Jang KeunSeok, SNSD’s ‘Mr.Taxi’ continues to dominate the charts as it secured the no.1 spot on Billboard Japan’s Top 100 Weekly Chart. Jang KeunSeok who did equally well on Oricon charts, came in 2nd.

UPDATE 7: ‘Mr.Taxi’ certified Gold

After surpassing sales of 100,000 copies in the first week of its release, SNSD’s ‘Mr.Taxi’ had been certified Gold by Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ). Along with SNSD’s ‘Mr.Taxi’, Jang GeunSeok’s ‘Let Me Cry’ was also awarded the Gold Certificate by the association.

Shoujo Jidai to perform ‘Mr.Taxi’ live for the first time on ‘Music Station’

SNSD will soon resume their Japanese activities.

SNSD will appear on Japan’s Asahi TV’s ‘Music Station’ which will be aired live on May 13th. On the show, SNSD will be performing ‘Mr.Taxi’ live for the very first time ever since the official release of the 3rd Japanese Single on April 27th.

The girls are set to ‘take on’ Japan again with their appearance on Music Station this time around. Seen by many as somehow affected by the massive earthquake on March 11th, the craze for SNSD in the Japanese music market is expected to be on the rise again.

Besides appearing on ‘Music Station’, SNSD are scheduled to kick off their Arena Tour in Osaka on May 31st. The concerts would be ongoing till July 17th where the girls will be touring Osaka, Tokyo, Saitama, Hiroshima, Nagoya and Fukuoka and perform in front of estimated audience of 100,000.

Mr. Taxi Dance Version PV released

After a possible teaser image surfaced last Saturday (April 23rd), SONEs have been waiting patiently on April 25th for the music video. To their disappointment, the PV remains elusive. That disappointment however was cut short when Universal Music Japan revealed ‘Mr.Taxi Dance Version’ PV through YouTube.
