Girls’ Generation nominated for two awards in the MTV VMAJ 2012!

In the newly announced list of nominees for the MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2012 (MTV VMAJ 2012), Girls’ Generation was nominated for two awards; Best Video of the Year for their hit single ‘Mr. Taxi’ and Best Album of the Year for their first Japanese album ‘Girls’ Generation’.


For the two awards, Girls’ Generation were nominated along big names such as Coldplay, Lady Gaga, Red Hot Chili Peppers, EXILE and more.

Like its counterpart in the US, the MTV VMAJ awards artists for their songs and videos through online voting. This time around, the online voting has begun since March 19th and will go on until June 8th. Be sure to LIKE the MTV VMAJ Facebook page and click the red buttons in the categories to vote once per day!

In 2011, Girls’ Generation won two out of three nominated awards from the same event for the Best Group Video award and the Best Karaokee! Song award for their Japanese version of ‘Genie’.

The MTV VMAJ 2012 will take place at Makuhari Messe, Chiba on June 23rd and the event will be hosted by Japanese girl group Perfume.

Girls’ Generation turns Times Square pink!

Girls’ Generation, who showed off their charms at successfully completed ‘SMTOWN Live in New York’ concert on October 23rd, participated in the filming of one of MTV channel’s programme and conquered the centre of New York – Times Square.

Promoting their worldwide-released song ‘The Boys’, Girls’ Generation appeared on the special programme on the music channel, MTV, on October 24th at 3pm (New York standard time). The programme, aired on ‘MTV News’ and ‘MTV Network Channel’, included an interview conducted with Girls’ Generation.

It is also worth mentioning that the programme was not only filmed at the MTV open studio located at New York’s Times Square, but it was also broadcasted live through the huge MTV display screen opposite the open studio. As fans from all regions of US gathered at Times Square to watch Girls’ Generation, their global popularity was once again proven to be true.


As soon as Girls’ Generation appeared onscreen, fans held up fan boards, towels and folding fans prepared in advance and at the same time, shouted members’ names loudly. Throughout the filming, fans stayed with the members and supported them, attracting attentions of the New York residents passing by Broadway.

As the MTV programme and ‘The Boys’ teaser video were broadcasted on the screen in Times Square on October 24th and 17th respectively, many fans have stood along the road to watch. So many fans were there that it created an illusion that Times Square has become ‘Girls’ Generation Road’.

Furthermore, after the filming of the MTV programme ended, Girls’ Generation held their first US fan meeting at the ‘BEST BUY Theater’ located at New York’s Broadway, to introduce their new album and the girls answered questions through the Q&A session. More than a thousand fans gathered at the fan meeting, once again indicating Girls’ Generation’s popularity.

Shoujo Jidai bags two awards at the 2011 MTV VMAJ!

The winners of the MTV Video Music Aid Japan 2011 (MTV VMAJ) were announced on Saturday evening and impressively, Shoujo Jidai (SNSD) won two out of the three awards that they were nominated!

The 2011 MTV VMAJ took place last week on June 25 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba City, Japan, where the girls performed ‘Mr. Taxi’ and ‘The Great Escape’, while the winners of awards were only announced on Saturday (July 2).


SNSD bagged two award wins out of their three nominations, which are the Best Group Video and the Best Karaokee! Song categories with their Japanese single ‘Genie’.

And the impressive part of winning the two awards? Other than being the only Korean representative to be nominated in the awards, they were up also against stiff competition along the likes of Black Eyed Peas, Linkin Park, Avril Lavigne, Justin Bieber, Ikimono-gakari and w-inds.

Fans can look forward to more goodies from the 2011 MTV VMAJ as a backstage special to the June 25 event will be aired on MTV Japan on July 23. Be sure to catch it!

A huge congratulations to the girls for another amazing achievement, having won another two music awards in Japan after less than a year of making their debut in the country!

Meanwhile, the girls had successfully completed one out of two concerts of their Arena Tour at the Hiroshima Green Arena, Japan on Saturday, with another scheduled for Sunday.

[UPDATED] Shoujo Jidai nominated alongside big names for 3 awards at 2011 MTV VMAJ

The 10th Annual MTV Video Music Awards Japan was renamed to MTV Video Music Aid Japan (VMAJ) and it will be held on June 25th, 2011 at Makuhari Messe (a convention center) in Chiba City, Japan. The event was named as VMAJ is support of the Japanese Red Cross and encourage the rebuilding efforts after the massive earthquake and tsunami in Northeastern Japan on March 11th.

The event will be aired live through MTV Japan, MTV Korea, MTV China and MTV Southeast Asia. 2011 MTV VMAJ will be hosted by Japanese girl group, AKB48 and there will be performances by Lady Gaga, EXILE, Kana Nishino, AK-69, etc.

There were 15 categories of awards at the 2011 MTV VMAJ namely Best Male Video, Best Female Video, Best Group Video, Best New Artist Video, Best Video of The Year, Best Rock Video, Best Pop Video, Best R&B Video, Best Hip Hop Video, Best Reggae Video, Best Dance Video, Best Video from a Film, Best Collaboration Video, Best Album of The Year and Best Karaoke! Song.

SNSD’s ‘Genie’ was nominated alongside some of the big names in the world in 3 categoriesBest Group Video, Best Video of The Year and Best Karaoke! Song. They will be up against the likes of Lady Gaga, Avril Lavigne, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Black Eyed Peas, Linkin Park and Utada Hikaru for these awards. Being nominated in these 3 categories is already a massive achievement and if they manage to grab just an award out of the 3, it would be a really amazing feat for the girls.

SNSD thanked fans for successful debut

SNSD expressed their gratitude towards their fans who have shown overwhelming response and made their debut in Japan a successful one.

On MTV Japan’s “SNSD in Japan Special” aired on September 17th, the girls talked about their debut showcase and their preparation for future activities.

Seohyun said, “During our first showcase in Japan, a lot of people have shown their interest in us. The feeling of getting so much love from them is really great.”

Sunny added, “I was so surprised as the overwhelming response was more than what we expected. I was moved by the response even before I got onto the stage. We will work harder in the future.”

On the dance choreography, Taeyeon told MTV Japan, “On our dance choreography, we are trying to highlight the members’ body line rather than just on the legs.”

The program featured SNSD’s performances of their hit songs, “Gee”, “Genie”, “Oh!” and “Run Devil Run” at the showcase in Ariake Coliseum on August 25th.

Meanwhile, the girls will be attending the 2010 Girls Award in National Yoyogi Stadium in Tokyo on September 18th.
