Girls’ Generation released their first Japanese greatest hits album titled ‘The Best’ today on July 23rd.
On its first day of release, ‘The Best’ managed to top the Oricon Daily Album Chart with a total of 37,104 albums sold!
‘The Best’ contains previous hit singles and songs from their Japanese albums since 2010 to 2014 and includes bonus tracks, which are the Japanese versions of ‘Mr.Mr.’ and a new song ‘Indestructible’.
The album comes in three versions, which is the Complete Limited Edition, First Press Limited Edition and Regular Edition. In certain versions, DVD or Bluray versions of music videos, interviews and making films are included.

Girls’ Generation was ranked 7th in Oricon’s ’2012 Annual Total Sales by Artist’ chart. Among the Korean singers plying their trades in Japan, the girls have recorded the highest number of sales in the year 2012.
On December 19th, Oricon officially published the annual singles and album sales ranking for 2012, calculated from December 26th, 2011 to December 17th, 2012.
According to the records published, the ranking of the artists were determined based on total sales from singles, studio albums, CD, DVD, blu-ray and etc. Girls’ Generation came in 7th after registering sales amounting to 4.332 billion Yen (55 billion Won).
Meanwhile, Girls’ Generation will be kicking off their ’2013 Girls’ Generation Arena Tour’ at Niigata, Japan.
‘Oh!’ and ‘Girls’ Generation Complete Video Collection’ certified Gold by RIAJ two weeks after release!October 11, 2012
After just two weeks of release, Girls’ Generation’s 5th Japanese single ‘Oh!’ has appeared on the list of singles with Gold certification.
The Gold certification by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) is given to releases with shipment figures exceeding 100,000 copies and in just two weeks, the 5th single ‘Oh!’, which was released on September 26th, had managed to achieved such amazing feat. Other than the single, the ‘Girls’ Generation Complete Video Collection’, which was released on the same day had also received the Gold certification as well, an indication of the girls’ huge popularity in Japan.
Earlier this year, the first Japanese album ‘Girls’ Generation’, which was released back in June 2011, smashed the 1,000,000 million figure and was certified as a ‘Million’ selling album.
There will be more exciting releases to come this year as the girls’ 6th Japanese single ‘Flower Power’ and 2nd Japanese Album (title yet to be revealed) will be hitting the stores come November 14th and 28th respectively.
On SBS ‘Midnight TV Entertainment’ aired on October 3rd, MC Yoon DoHyun congratulated his fellow MC of the show, Sooyoung on Girls’ Generation’s recent success in capturing the no.1 spot for 3 weekly charts on Oricon at the same time.
Sooyoung expressed her gratitude on the impressive achievement by saying, “I’m really thankful to the Oppas (older male fans), unnies (older female fans), uncles, aunties, dongsaengs (younger male and female fans) and friends who have given so much love to Girls’ Generation. We shall be the Girls’ Generation that work hard”.
By winning 3 weekly charts at the same time, Girls’ Generation are the only female and foreign artist who have managed to achieve such feat so far. Upon hearing Sooyoung’s words, Yoon DoHyun commented, “I’m pleased too”, expressing his delight on Girls’ Generation’s success.
Girls’ Generation topped Oricon’s Weekly Singles Chart (October 8th edition) through their 5th Japanese single ‘Oh!’ which was released on September 26th with sales of about 66,000 copies throughout the first week of its release.
Besides the single’s successful release, the ‘Girls’ Generation Complete Video Collection’ DVD and Blu-ray which were released on the same day as the 5th single also topped the weekly charts of their respective divisions with sales of 40,000 copies (DVD) and 19,000 copies (Blu-ray) respectively.
With such impressive sales volume, Girls’ Generation had successfully secured the no.1 spot on 3 different divisions, making them the second artist to have achieved such a feat after Japan’s popular group, Mr. Children. Among female artists as well as foreign artists, Girls’ Generation are the first to have topped 3 divisions at the same time.
Girls’ Generation is back with another single to dominate the Japanese music industry again this summer. Exactly 1 year and 2 months after the release of their 3rd Japanese single ‘Mr.Taxi’ (released on April 27th, 2011), Girls’ Generation’s 4th Japanese single ‘Paparazzi’ is set to be unveiled on June 27th, 2012. Just hours after the announcement of the single’s release, the PV teaser was revealed through SMTOWN’s official YouTube channel.
Earlier this month during an interview with JoongAng Daily, Tiffany described the new single ‘Paparazzi’ as a fast-beat dance song that has the most difficult choreography in history. The production team of the single includes Grammy Award winner Miles Walker (mixing) and world-renowned Sterling Sound’s Tom Coyne (mastering).
In the teaser PV revealed, Girls’ Generation members appeared as top stars who are getting all the attention with bodyguards accompanying them as they made their way to a theater. Also, through the teaser, one could clearly hear the repeated verse of ‘ooh la la la~’. Another aspect that strikes the attention of the viewers is the members’ fashionable appearance in beige-colored trench coats in front of a broadway theater.

UPDATE 1: Music Videos of Paparazzi released, recorded about 2 million views in less than 2 days
At midnight of June 15th, two versions (Full Version and Dance Edit) of ‘Paparazzi’ music video were released through SM Town official YouTube channel. In just less than two days, the full version of the ‘Paparazzi’ MV recorded more than 1.6 million views while the dance version has about 850,000 views on YouTube.
The girls are scheduled to appear on TV Asahi’s ‘Music Station’ on June 22nd along with Linkin Park, KAT-TUN, etc.

UPDATE 2: ‘Paparazzi’ topped iTunes Japan Chart
Just hours after its official release, Girls’ Generation have shown their domination once again by taking the no.1 spot on iTunes Japan’s ‘Top Charts’.
Rola’s debut album ‘Memories’ came in 2nd while Japanese girl group Momoiro Clover Z took the no.3 spot. American singer, Chris Brown’s ‘Don’t Wake Me Up’ was also among the top 10 songs in the chart.

UPDATE 3: ‘Paparazzi’ ranked 2nd on Oricon Daily Singles Chart
On June 27th, based on the data released by Oricon, Girls’ Generation’s ‘Paparazzi’ has recorded sales of 42,525 copies, placing the girls’ 4th Japanese Single in the no.2 spot behind KAT-TUN’s ‘To The Limit’ which sold more than 60,000 copies on day 1. Both singles were officially released on June 27th.
In comparison to the girls’ 3rd Japanese Single ‘Mr.Taxi/Run Devil Run’ which was released in April 2011, ‘Paparazzi’ ended its first day of sales by about 2,000 copies more. However, both singles finished 2nd on day 1.
UPDATE 4: ‘Paparazzi’ ranked 2nd on Oricon Weekly Singles Chart
According to Oricon on July 5th, ‘Paparazzi’ recorded sales of 92,526 copies for the week June 25th to July 1st, which places the 4th single in the 2nd spot on the Oricon Weekly Singles Chart behind KAT-TUN’s ‘To The Limit’ which sold 156,351 copies in the same week.
‘Girls’ Generation 1st Japan Tour’ DVD and Blu-ray Disc (BD) are hot-selling items in Japan in the first half of 2012.
According to Oricon’s 2012 first half ranking, the ‘Girls’ Generation 1st Japan Tour’ BD was ranked 2nd in the ‘Music BD Sales’ category with 56,000 copies sold. In the ‘Music DVD Sales’ category as well, Girls’ Generation had once again proven their huge popularity by selling 148,718 copies in the first half of the year, where it was ranked 4th.
Girls’ Generation kicked off their ’1st Japan Arena Tour’ on May 31st, 2011 with 14 performances in 6 cities in front of 140,000 fans. Released simultaneously on December 14th, 2011, the BD and DVD had also dominated the Oricon weekly charts for both the BD and DVD categories at the same time, making Girls’ Generation the first foreign artist to have achieved such an impressive feat.
The official website of the ’1st GaOn Chart Awards’ (www.kpopawards.co.kr) was officially launched on February 13th.
On the official website, there are various information about award ceremony, categories, judging process, logo, trophies, etc as well as the list of nominees.
The award categories are ‘Artists of The Year Award (16 divisions), ‘New Artist of The Year Award’, ‘Best Music Composer/Lyricist of The Year Award’, ‘Best Performer of The Year Award’ , ‘Technical Excellence of The Year Award’, ‘Style of The Year Award’, ‘New Media Platform Award’, ‘Producer of The Year Award’, ‘Oricon Hallyu Singer Award’, ‘Kpop Contribution Award’, ‘International Song of The Year Award’ and ‘Discovery of The Year Award’. The award ceremony will be held on February 22nd starting at 7pm KST at Blue Square Samsung Card Hall.
The ‘Oricon Hallyu Singer Award’ will be awarded to the Korean artist who has recorded the highest album sales in Japan last year (2011) based on Oricon’s aggregate sales data. by Oricon. The trophy will be presented to the winner by the Chairman of Oricon Group, Goike Kow during the event.
The recipient for the ‘International Song of The Year Award’ has been selected and the trophy goes to the world-known rock band Maroon 5 who will be revealing their feelings and thoughts on receiving this award through a video message which will be played during the award ceremony.
The 3-hour ’1st GaOn Chart Kpop Awards’ will be aired live simultaneously on KBS Drama and KBS Joy.
Girls’ Generation’s 1st Japanese album and repackaged version to be available in Korea on February 9thFebruary 9, 2012
Girls’ Generation’s Japanese album and its repackaged will be available on the Korean market starting February 9th.
SM Entertainment stated, “1st Japanese studio album ‘Girls’ Generation’ and the repackaged album ‘Girls’ Generation: The Boys’ will be available in Korea on February 9th, where each of the album will be available in 2 editions (CD only and CD with DVD).”
‘Girls’ Generation’ consists of 12 songs, which includes hits such as the Japanese versions of ‘Gee’, ‘Genie’, ‘Run Devil Run’, as well as other new songs such as ‘You-aholic’, ‘Let It Rain’, etc. In addition, the music videos for ‘Mr.Taxi’, ‘Gee’ and ‘Genie’ will be included in the DVD.
The repackaged album has 15 tracks in total where it consists of the Japanese version of ‘The Boys’ as well as new song ‘Time Machine’ and the remix versions of ‘Mr. Taxi’, ‘Bad Girl’ and ‘The Great Escape’.
Released in June last year, ‘Girls’ Generation’ went into the history book for being an album by a foreign artist which recorded the high sales in the first week of release on Oricon in Japan. Girls’ Generation is also the first Korean girl group to have taken the no.1 spot on Oricon Weekly Album Chart. Within just a month, the album which recorded sales of more than 500,000 copies and was certified ‘Double Platinum’ by RIAJ. Along with the repackaged album, 1 million copies of the album were shipped out as of December 2011. The girls’ 1st Japanese studio album broke another record when it was placed within the top 10 of Oricon Weekly Album Chart for 17 weeks.
