SNSD’s 1st Japan Arena Tour concerts gained quite a reputation from Japanese media.
On July 21st Oricon stated, “SNSD had their last concert for the Japan Arena Tour on July 18th at Fukuoka Marine Messe. The 14-concerts Arena Tour which was scheduled to start at the end of May in Osaka due to the catastrophic earthquake attracted a total audience of 140,000. Although the members were busy preparing for the release of their 1st Japanese Album, performances in Paris and also schedules in Korea, they managed to complete the tour successfully”.
The 3 hour concert has a total of 32 songs which includes Tiffany’s rap part in ‘Genie’, solo stages, Korean hit songs, etc. Although the girls received praises for their perfect live performances and the variety of display, Japanese media seemed to be interested about the girls’ tears. Tiffany, Yuri and the other girls said, “It was our dream to tour the whole country. We are thankful for the abundance of love we received”. Oricon further stated, “The members’ tears had shone even more”.
SNSD will be kicking off their 2nd solo concert ’2011 Girls’ Generation Tour’ on July 23rd and 24th at Seoul Olympic Park Stadium. Expectations are high as the concert will also feature songs from the 1st Japanese Album.
SNSD recorded a total sales of 2.6 billion Yen in the first half of 2011, according to ‘Oricon 2011 first half ranking’ which placed them at the no.1 spot in terms of total sales among foreign artistes and 5th among the top selling artistes in Japan.
AKB48 sold the most with 6.66 billion Yen, followed by Arashi with 6.59 billion Yen. EXILE came in 3rd with 4.68 billion Yen while Japanese diva, Namie Amuro was just a spot in front of Shoujo Jidai with a total sales amounting to 2.7 billion Yen. Kara took the 6th spot with sales of 2.15 billion Yen. SNSD and Kara who are the symbols of Kpop fever in Japan since last year had managed to be in the top 10 best selling artistes in Japan for the first half of 2011.
After 3 weeks of its release, SNSD’s 1st Japanese studio album ‘Girls’ Generation’ has recorded a total sales of 378,534 copies. With sales volume reaching 400,000, the initial shipment of 500,000 copies proved to be too little. In order to cope with the demand, additional 100,000 copies are being shipped.
SNSD have created history on Japan’s Oricon Chart once again!
Their first Japanese album, ‘Girls’ Generation’ which was officially released on June 1st topped the Oricon Weekly Album Chart (Week 1 of June) with a record-breaking cumulative first week sales figure of 232,000 copies, according to Oricon in the early morning of June 7th. With that feat, ‘Girls’ Generation’ is currently the best selling first album by a foreign artiste in Japan. The girls are also the only Korean girl group ever to capture the no.1 spot on Oricon Weekly Album Chart.
Besides that, the last time a foreign female girl group has ever topped the Oricon Weekly Album Chart with their first album in the first week was 8 years 3 months ago, by Russian girl group, t.A.T.u. Besides topping the weekly chart, SNSD’s ‘Girls’ Generation’ also topped the Oricon Daily Album Chart for 6 days in a row.
SNSD who had completed their ’1st Japan Arena Tour Concert’ in Osaka and Saitama are now on the way to Paris for the ‘SM Town Live World Tour’ at Le Zenith de Paris which will be taking place on June 10th and 11th. The girls were seen in their unique and casual wears at Incheon International Airport this morning (June 7th).
UPDATE 1 (June 10th): ‘Girls’ Generation’ debut at no.3 on United World Chart
Debuting at no.3 on the Album Chart category of the United World Chart for week 24, the girls’ 1st Japanese album ‘Girls’ Generation’ have obtained an international recognition for their tremendous sales of 232,000 copies in the first week of its release.
The 1st album ‘Girls’ Generation’ had consistently sold above 20,000 copies daily for the past 6 days and indeed, the question we asked just a few days ago was answered today with a firm ‘YES!’. Recording sales of 21,841 copies on day 6 took the total cumulative sales to 215,198 copies and this was accomplished within the very first week of its official release!
The ongoing ’1st Japan Arena Tour’ and appearance on various music shows in Japan have indeed propelled the girls’ popularity greatly. Having to perform so many concerts within such a short time is never an easy task to accomplish. The mind is willing but the body has its own limits as well. Recently, we have heard news about Sooyoung having a 38 degree Celsius fever and Sunny getting an intravenous (IV) drip, but the girls are determined to strive on as not to disappoint their beloved SONEs. As SONEs, we should always believe in our girls and let our prayers and support empower them always.
Nonetheless, their hard work paid off and well justified as they successfully sold over 20,000 copies a day for 6 straight days. With their tireless efforts, SNSD are laying a firm foundation through the ’1st Japan Arena Tour’ which sees them taking on a total of 14 concerts in 6 cities in Japan. As the fanbase grows with such strong foundation, Shoujo Jidai will be launching waves and waves of ‘attacks’ on Japan’s music industry.
The girls are definitely not new in breaking records and as we observed the pattern from the sales figures of their releases in week 1 so far, it has been displaying an upward trend. We won’t be surprise if we were told that the girls achieved sales of 300,000 copies in the first week for their next release.
Figures aside, the true fact is that SNSD need SONEs and SONES need SNSD. So, #prayforsnsd always and let us cheer our girls on forever as we step into the new world with them!
