On February 1st, Girls’ Generation held a press conference at Gansevoort Hotel, New York, after successfully completing their first performances on American TV.
After being asked about how they felt being on American TV the girls replied, “When we were first told that we were confirmed to be on a famous American TV show, all of us just cried. We didn’t believe it until we got here and actually performed in front of the live audience and the cameras. It was just so surreal and such a big honor. It was an experience that none of us will ever forget.”
On January 31st, Girls’ Generation made their first American debut on one of the main American talk shows, CBS’s ‘The Late Show with David Letterman’. The girls performed a new remix version of their song ‘The Boys’ live, along with the shows live band. The next day on February 1st, the girls made their second appearance on ABC’s popular morning show ‘Live! with Kelly’, also performing their song ‘The Boys’.
Earlier today, national American daily, USA Today also had a brief interview with the girls.
Their next interview is scheduled to take place on February 2nd with NBC’s entertainment program ‘Extra TV’.

Girls’ Generation are receiving huge attention in France.
On French music magazine, Musique Info’s ‘Midem 2012 Special Edition’, an article with the title ‘Girls’ Generation Taking On The World’ was published.
In the article, Music Info stated, “Girls’ Generation and Kpop, which is widely known in Asia and the rest of the world, are beginning to receive recognition.” Also, the article reported on the girls’ participation in the ‘SM Town Live’ concert, which took place in Paris (June 2011), as well as the New York-leg of the concert in Madison Square Garden (October 2011).

The schedule of Girls’ Generation’s album sales in France was also revealed in the magazine. The Korean version of Girls’ Generation’s 3rd album ‘The Boys’, which will be released for the first time in France will make its way to the market in January/February while the English version, which involves the participation of famous producers, Teddy Riley and Polow Da Don will be available in June this year.
Girls’ Generation’s special album which was released on January 17th in United States, Canada, France, England and various countries in American and European continents made its debut on US Billboard charts.
The special album which consists of ‘The Boys’ and the songs in the 3rd album as well as the English remix versions, debuted at no.22 on Billboard’s ‘Heatseekers Albums’ chart ending February 4th.
Billboard’s ‘Heatseekers Albums’ chart (50 positions) is ranked based on Nielsen SoundScan sales data and it charts albums from ‘new or developing artists’ based on their historical chart performance. Being listed in the chart, it is a recognition that the girls have the potential to be successful among many new artists in the US market.
Besides the ‘Heatseekers Albums’ chart, ‘The Boys’ had also made it to the no.2 spot on the ‘World Albums’ chart. Although the girls have not officially kick off their promotional activities in the United States, this is a meaningful and impressive result against other musicians around the world who are carrying out their activities in America.

On January 11th, Japan’s internet daily ‘RBB Today’ stated that 1 million copies of Girls’ Generation’s 1st Japanese album ‘Girls’ Generation’ had been shipped since its release in June 2011.
According to Oricon, 1st Japanese album ‘Girls’ Generation’ recorded sales of 680,000 copies as of January 5th. With the release of the repackaged album on December 28th, 2011 which took the no.2 spot on Oricon Weekly Chart (January 9th) after recording a total weekly sales of 82,768 copies, the accumulative sales of ‘Girls’ Generation’ and its repackaged album had gone up to 735,000 copies. Thus, It is just a matter of time before ‘Girls’ Generation’ becomes a million-certified album by RIAJ.
By hitting the 7 figures, Girls’ Generation will be among the first (if not the first) Korean girl groups to have a million-selling album. It has been 7 years since BoA sold over a million copies for her ‘Best of Soul’ album (1.09 million copies) in February 2005.
American entertainment site, ‘Just Jared’ introduced Girls’ Generation as the group to watch out for in 2012.
Through its official site on December 2nd, ‘Just Jared’ stated, “Girls’ Generation and Snoop Dogg’s ‘The Boys’ is the first pick of the year for JustJared.com and 102.7 KIIS FM’s JJ Music Monday!”
‘Just Jared’ is an entertainment site that brings news on American pop culture trends as well as photo galleries of famous celebrities. KIIS radio channel’s Assistant Program Director and Music Director, Julie Pilat said, “The K-pop movement has been spreading like wildfire worldwide thanks to Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. Girls’ Generation’s ‘The Boys’ music video is the most shared music video on Facebook this year.
On December 28th, social music service platform, Muzalive revealed that out of 89,450 Kpop music video links shared on Facebook this year (from January 1st to December 24th, 2011), Girls’ Generation’s ‘The Boys’ music video was shared 959 times, more than any other Kpop music videos.
Super Junior’s ‘Mr.Simple’ which was shared 379 times, came in 2nd while Sistar 19′s ‘Ma Boy’ came in 3rd (shared 329 times). Besides ‘The Boys’, Girls’ Generation’s 2009 hit song ‘Gee’ was also within the top 5 where it was shared 200 times (5th).
If we classify the ranking according to artists who have the most videos being shared on Facebook within the top 50, Girls’ Generation again took the no.1 spot with 11 entries. Super Junior came in 2nd with 7 videos while Brown Eyed Girls took the no.3 spot with 3 entries.
Girls’ Generation takes up the roles of dance teachers for the five boys from JTBC’s ‘SNSD and the Dangerous Boys’, who have taken up the challenge of the dance competition ‘Street Jam’.
In the previous episode, with the help of psychiatrist, Girls’ Generation has advised the boys to compete in ‘Street Jam’ in order to give them a common goal.
