Girls’ Generation won the ‘Video of the Year’ award in the first ever YouTube Music Awards with their hit song ‘I Got A Boy’!
Tiffany attended the awards ceremony in New York on behalf of her group and it proved that her long journey there was well worth it as Girls’ Generation walked away with one of the biggest award of the night!
‘I Got A Boy’ was announced as one of the nominees for the award two weeks ago along with big names such as Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj’s ‘Beauty And A Beat’, Lady Gaga’s ‘Applause’, Miley Cyrus’ ‘We Can’t Stop’, One Direction’s ‘Best Song Ever’, PSY’s ‘Gentleman’ and more.
The winners for the YouTube Music Awards were the videos from each categories that received the most votes and shares across networking platforms such as Google+, Twitter and Facebook.
It is also worth mentioning that Girls’ Generation was the only Kpop group nominated in the awards.

The first ever YouTube Music Awards will be held in New York City on Sunday, November 3rd. Girls’ Generation is the only Kpop group to receive a nomination in the global awards event alongside fellow South Korean PSY, whose songs ‘Gangnam Style’ and ‘Gentleman’ went viral worldwide.
Girls’ Generation’s ‘I Got A Boy’ music video is nominated in the ‘Video of the Year’ award with big names such as Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj’s ‘Beauty And A Beat’, Lady Gaga’s ‘Applause’, Miley Cyrus’ ‘We Can’t Stop’, One Direction’s ‘Best Song Ever’, PSY’s ‘Gentleman’ and more. The ‘Video of the Year’ award is created to honour the world’s most loved music videos and the nominated videos are some of the videos with the highest fan engagement in YouTube in the last 12 months including views, likes, shares, comments and subscriptions.
Besides, the ‘Video of the Year’ award, the YouTube Music Awards will also give out awards for ‘Artist of the Year’, ‘Response of the Year’, ‘YouTube Phenomenon’, ‘YouTube Breakthrough’ and ‘Innovation’. These awards are open for voting to fans around the world starting today October 22nd by visiting youtube.com/musicawards or searching “YTMA” on YouTube as well as sharing the official YouTube Music Awards nomination videos across social networks (SNS) such as Google+, Twitter and Facebook.
Prior to the live event of the YouTube Music Awards at Pier 36 in New York City, five music events from Seoul, Tokyo, Moscow, London and Rio will be streamed on YouTube (youtube.com/YouTube) and the stream will kick off at 5am ET on November 3rd. It was also announced that Lady Gaga, Eminem and more will perform at the live event of the YouTube Music Awards in New York City.

After winning the ‘Champion Song’ trophy on MBC ‘Show! Music Champion’ on May 8th, Girls’ Generation – TTS continued their winning streak on music programs by grabbing their first win on Mnet’s ‘M!Countdown’ aired on May 10th.
Sporting leopard-print costumes, Taeyeon, Tiffany and Seohyun wowed fans with ‘Twinkle’, flaunting their impressive vocal and captivating dance moves. Within just a week after their debut performance as Girls’ Generation – TTS on ‘M!Countdown’, the girls showed their domination by taking the no.1 spot this week. However, the girls were not at CJ E&M Center in Mapo-gu, Seoul to receive the award as they had departed for Yeosu after the pre-recording of ‘M!Countdown’ to participate in the recording of KBS 2TV’s ‘Open Concert’.
The victory celebration could also be witnessed on Twitter as ’120510 Mnet MCD TaeTiSeo – Twinkle’ and ‘Congrats TTS’ were listed among the top 10 trending topics on Twitter worldwide.
Congratulations to Girls’ Generation – TTS and we hope that the three lovely ladies will enjoy a long winning streaks on music programs. With YouTube views over 10 million in just 9 days and selling close to 50,000 copies in the first week (Hanteo) as well as topping both the digital and album division on GaOn Chart (April 29th – May 5th), looks like there is nothing to stop the girls from keep raising the bar and breaking records at the same time.

The MBC Korean Music Wave in Google concert, jointly organized by MBC and Google/YouTube, will be held at 7pm (local time) on May 21st at Shoreline Amphitheater, an outdoor concert venue situated at Mountain View, California. This concert features participation from Hallyu’s top artistes such as Girls’ Generation, TVXQ, Wonder Girls, Kara, Beast, MBLAQ, Sistar, f(x) and Super Junior.
MBC kicked off its large scale concert in Bangkok, Thailand and subsequently in other venues such as Tokyo Dome (Japan), Paris (France), Niigata (Japan), Sydney (Australia). Come May 21st, MBC along with the symbol of world’s IT industry, Google are set to rock the Shoreline Amphitheater (capacity of about 22,500) with captivating performances from the popular Kpop artistes. In October last year, in order to promote K-pop and K-drama overseas, MBC signed an agreement with Google to provide its broadcast contents through YouTube.
MBC Korean Music Wave in Google will be aired across the globe live through the MBC K-POP YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/MBCkpop) and YouTube Presents (http://www.youtube.com/presents). Having aired various concerts from top world musicians such as Jason Mraz, Taylor Swift and Rebecca Black previously, this will be the first time a Kpop concert is introduced on YouTube Presents. Through this Kpop concert, which is jointly organized with the world’s most popular video platform, YouTube, it is seen as an opportunity to promote and spread the Hallyu craze even further globally.
The admission to the concert is free and ticket requests can be made through the official ticketing site (http://www.powerhouselive.net/KoreanMusicWaveInGoogle.aspx). The tickets will be opened to public starting May 12th (Saturday) at 7pm PDT.
The MBC Korean Music Wave in Google concert will be hosted by Taeyeon and Tiffany with participation from 9 groups, who will be captivating the audience with special performances of their popular songs. The performances will also be aired at a later date through MBC TV.
Through their first mini album ‘Twinkle’, Girls’ Generation – TaeTiSeo becomes the first Korean artistes to be placed fourth on the iTunes USA Album Chart.
As soon as ‘Twinkle’ was released worldwide through iTunes at 12am KST on April 29th, it had managed to secure the fourth spot on the album chart, putting TaeTiSeo as the first Korean artistes to have recorded top 5 placing.
At the same time, this mini album has also put the girls at #2 in the iTunes Pop Album Chart behind popular British popstar Adele. This also, was the best achievement by Korean artistes in history so far. Besides this, TaeTiSeo’s ‘Twinkle’ also ranked very highly on the iTunes Album Charts in countries like Japan, Canada, Australia, England, Spain, etc.
In addition to these, Girls’ Generation TaeTiSeo’s individual teaser videos, which were released one after another on YouTube have recorded more than 10 million views in total within just 4 days. On the day the teaser videos for all 3 members were released, two of the teaser videos were even ranked 1st and 2nd on YouTube’s daily worldwide chart for ‘Most Viewed Videos’ category. Not only that, in the previous week (April 23rd to April 29th), Taeyeon and Tiffany’s teaser videos which have been receiving explosive responses were ranked 4th and 6th respectively in the weekly chart for ‘Most Viewed Videos’ on YouTube.
Come April 30th, the music video of the mini album’s title song ‘Twinkle’ will be unveiled. This music video features a musical-like feel and gorgeousness, as well as Girls’ Generation TaeTiSeo’s colorful charms. Besides that, cameo appearances by EXO-K’s members Kai, ChanYeol, SeHoon, BaekHyun are sure to heat up the anticipation among global music fans.
The music video of Girls’ Generation’s ‘The Boys’ was ranked 3rd on YouTube’s worldwide music category.
Released on October 19th, the Korean version of ‘The Boys’ music video was placed behind hip-hop group, LMFAO and Justin Bieber in the music category for the week’s ‘Most Watched Video’, an indication of Girls’ Generation’s global popularity. The amazing feat on YouTube did not go unnoticed as ‘The Boys’ was featured on E!’s entertainment news programme ‘E!News’ On October 27th.
As of 8am KST on October 28th, ‘The Boys’ music videos, both in Korean and English version had accumulatively surpassed 15 million views.
On October 24th (New York’s local time), the girls’ appearance on American music channel, MTV’s programme ‘MTV News’ as well as MTV’s network channel, ‘MTV IGGY’ had since garnered much attention. Particularly, the girls’ recording for ‘MTV IGGY’ was displayed on a huge billboard in New York’s Time Square.
On October 27th, Girls’ Generation made their first comeback on Mnet’s ‘M! Countdown’ since 2008 and took the no.1 spot on the day of the comeback itself. Including Gaon Chart, Billboard Korea’s Kpop Hot 100 Chart and respective music site charts, ‘The Boys’ had managed to capture the top spots for the 5th week of October.

The 9 goddesses announced their return to KBS ‘Music Bank’ with a powerful comeback stage!
On October 21st, SNSD performed their very first live performance of ‘The Boys’ on KBS ‘Music Bank’ since its release on October 19th.
The 9 girls took the stage with each of them wearing completely different costumes, emphasizing their respective personalities and awed the audience with their strong, powerful and charismatic performance. Besides ‘The Boys’, SNSD also performed the Korean version of ‘Mr.Taxi’ for the first time on a music show.
The girls’ comeback on ‘Music Bank’ was made even more special when ‘GIRLS ARE BACK’ and ‘BRING THE BOYS OUT’ went on to become the trending topics on Twitter. Also, as of 8pm KST, the music video for the Korean version of ‘The Boys’ had surpassed 7.6 million views in less than 3 days.
In just 3 days, the teaser video of SNSD’s new song ‘The Boys’ has recorded more than 1.55 million views.
On October 1st, the 30-second teaser video for ‘The Boys’ was revealed through YouTube. At around 10am KST on October 3rd, the number of views have exceeded 1.55 million. Within just a short period of time, the girls’ huge popularity around the world could be clearly observed.
SNSD’s ‘The Boys’ was set for release on October 4th but due to matters pertaining to their promotional activities, the release date has been postponed.
Recently, on online community, a post entitled ‘World Map Indicating Kpop Idol’s Popularity Based On No. of YouTube Clicks’ was published. The distribution of clicks around the world for videos of artistes such as SNSD, SHINee, 2NE1, Kara, etc was depicted on the map and the density of the clicks in respective countries was represented in different tones of green.
Among the Kpop idols, videos of SNSD and 2NE1 seem to garner most clicks throughout the world, justifying their positions as the leaders of girl groups in Korea. The popularity of SNSD transcends beyond the boundaries of Asia and widely spreads to countries in Europe, North and South America as well.
