Having dominated the Oricon Daily Album Chart with their greatest hits album ‘The Best’ since its release on July 23rd, Girls’ Generation has made their way to the top of the Oricon Weekly Album Chart with more than 75,000 albums sold!
This marks the third time Girls’ Generation has achieved such results, the first two being their first full-length Japanese album ‘Girls’ Generation’ in 2011 and 3rd Japanese album ‘Love & Peace’ in December last year.
This also meant that Girls’ Generation has set a new record to become the first Asian girl group outside of Japan to have received three #1s on the Oricon Weekly Album Chart! The previous record was held by Chinese musical group Twelve Girls Band, who performs traditional Chinese and Western music using traditional Chinese musical instruments.
The greatest hits album ‘The Best’ consists of many of Girls’ Generation’s Japanese hit title songs such as ‘Genie’ (2010), ‘Gee’ (2010), ‘Oh!’ (2012) and more. It also includes new songs such as the Japanese version of ‘Mr.Mr.’ and a brand new song ‘Indestructible’.
